EMHS Receives Donation from FHP

The Florida Highway Patrol's UAV Unit has donated nine Skydio X2 aircraft to EMHS - allowing our students to train on the same systems used across the country.

The Florida Highway Patrol UAV Unit donated nine Skydio X2 multirotor aircraft to EMHS. These small UAS will be utilized in support of public safety and emergency management activities across the state, as well as become a new fleet of training aircraft for our EM and UAS students.

EMHS has been flying Skydio aircraft for over two years for all of our activities, but budgetary restraints made it difficult to maintain a large fleet for training and education. These donated aircraft will enable FSU students to learn using the same aircraft and systems utilized in emergencies and disasters across the country. The Skydio X2 integrates with the EMHS-run TAK Server (tak.gov), providing a working lab for enhancing situational awareness and supporting remote sensing in disasters.

The EMHS UAS Team works to train and educate students from both FSU and the professional community, as well as respond to disasters and incidents across Florida and the United States. The team works every FSU home football game, supporting FSU Police and EM with live video and incident response, and providing a unique educational experience for EMHS students.

The Florida Highway Patrol has one of the largest professional unmanned aircraft teams in the State of Florida, with drones and operators working in every Troop across the state. They have been excellent partners in disasters such as Hurricane Idalia, Hurricane Helene, and Hurricane Milton, and FSU EMHS faculty, staff, and students thank them for their generosity.
