# Crew and Personnel - Qualifications and Positions
To simplify - the designated RPIC is the final authority for the safe operation of the UA. **There are no exceptions.**  

## Flight Crew
Flight crew are assigned to a specific UA/sortie. These can be changed regularly during an operational period or mission.  

### Remote Pilot in Command (RPIC)
**Required on every sortie.** Legally and operationally responsible for the safe and effective operation of a single unmanned aircraft system. 
### Visual Observer (VO)
**Required on every sortie.** Assists the RPIC with maintaining separation of the UA from traffic. Assists in risk management operations. 
### Sensor Operator (SO)
Assigned as needed. Responsible for the operation and interpretation of sensors attached to the UA as payloads.  
### Person Manipulating the Controls (PMC)
The individual physically operating the controls of the UA. This position can only operate under the direct supervision of an RPIC.  This is a trainee role.  

### Deprecated Crew Positions
Positions not covered here, but that exist historically, include Aircraft Operator (AO) and other mission specific roles.  

## Mission Roles
These are *roles* - focused on specific tasks/responsibilities.  A single person can hold multiple roles per operational period or activation. Not all roles will be filled in every activation.
### UAS Module Leader (UASL)
The Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Module Leader (UASL) is a higher-level position that involves overseeing multiple unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) resources during an activation or assignment. This individual is responsible for coordinating and managing multiple UAS resources and works closely with the Incident Management Team (IMT) to ensure that the UAS resources are meeting incident goals and objectives. This role requires strong leadership, communication, organizational skills, and advanced policy knowledge to effectively manage a diverse range of UAS resources. The UASL reports to the Air Operations Branch Director, Incident Commander (IC), or other assigned supervisor. 

### UAS Module Manager (UASM)
The Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Manager (UASM) is the conduit between an unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) module and incident management. The UASM provides supervision and coordination of a UAS module. The UASM supervises assigned crew members and reports to an Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Module Leader, Air Operations Branch Director, Incident Commander (IC), or other assigned supervisor. 

### Mission Manager (MM)
The internal designation of the role that accepts incoming tasking requests, assigned taskings to teams or modules, and establishes priorities. This role closely aligns with the national/ICS position of UASM or UASL

### Data Manager (DM)
The internal designation of the role that manages all incoming collected data, oversees processing and analysis, creates and approves products, and conducts or supervises distribution of products.  

### Data Technician (DT)
The internal designation of the role that processes, analyzes, and distributes data, information, and products.  

## Personnel Qualifications
These are qualifications - a set of experience and/or training required for individuals.  Qualified personnel can fulfill different roles on a UAS Team or Module
### Small UAS Pilot (SUASP)
Designated by the Florida SERT Air Operations Branch / Florida UAS Working Group.  This position qualification ensures that personnel assigned as UAS crew are qualified to operate a small UAS within the Incident Command System to accomplish operational objectives.  

### Small UAS Team Leader (SUASTL)
Designated by the Florida SERT Air Operations Branch / Florida UAS Working Group.  This position qualification ensures that personnel assigned as a UAS Team Leader, UAS Task Force Leader, UAS Module Manager, or UAS Module Leader are qualified to operate a small UAS, manage multiple UAS teams to meet objectives, and support command or the IMT. 

### Small UAS Data Technician (SUASDT)
Designated by the Florida SERT Air Operations Branch / Florida UAS Working Group.  This position qualification ensures that personnel assigned as a Data Technician or Data Manager are qualified to collect, process, analyze, and distribute data and imagery. 

### CDRP UAS Remote Pilot in Command
Internal personnel qualification/certification of readiness to serve as a Remote Pilot in Command.

### CDRP Instructor Pilot
Internal personnel qualification/certification of readiness to serve as an instructor to students or Remote Pilots in Command in Training.

## Examples
1. An individual holds CDRP UAS Remote Pilot in Command and Small UAS Pilot qualifications.  That individual may operate as an RPIC for a UA on an assignment.
