Disaster Incident Research Team - DIRT
The Disaster Incident Research Team consists of CDRP staff members as well as FSU students enrolled in the Emergency Management courses. The purpose of DIRT is to provide Emergency Management-minded FSU students with research opportunities (Case studies, Network analysis, Content analysis) pertaining to the difficulties faced by residents, visitors, local businesses and responders immediately following a disaster. DIRT members work in conjunction with local municipalities, business owners, and emergency management personnel to gather first-hand data relating to their research topics.
Virtual Opertations Support Team - VOST
The purpose of a Virtual Operations Support Team, as it pertains to Emergency Management and disaster response, consists of teams of supporting agents in alternate locations providing information gathered through social media tools and other new communication technologies to on-site responders. VOSTs can be activated with specific functions depending on the nature of the disaster, specifically targeting organizations, municipalities, or geographic location. The FSU VOST team will have the opportunity to work with local authorities as well as the FSU DIRT members in supporting authorities in local incident response and recovery efforts.
The Center for Disaster Risk Policy, the applied research center of EMHS, often works on EM programs or projects for local, state and Federal agencies. These projects often include the opportunity for student participation. These opportunities will be advertised as they come up.
